Soil–Structure Interaction Effects on Seismic Responses of a Conventional and Isolated Bridge Subjected to Moderate Near-Fault and Far-Field Records

Seismic isolation is a powerful tool for mitigating seismic risk and improving structural performance. However, some parameters, such as earthquake inputs soil characteristics, influence the technology’s This research aims to investigate effects of soil–structure interaction (SSI) with regard different moderate earthquakes associated distances source site, frequency content, characteristics on response isolated bridges. Near-fault (NF) far-field (FF) records are applied conventional bridge without considering underlying soil. For this reason, using direct simplified methods, three properties representing rock, dense, stiff soils modeled in Abaqus software. Nonlinear time history analysis (NLTHA) carried out, responses both approaches terms maximum deck acceleration, base shear, displacement system studied. Results demonstrate that difference between two significant. Using method rather simple approach roughly captures important features record SSI.
